i'm alive and well.
it's hella busy at work right now, and here i am posting on my livejournal blog. to ease the transition, i've decided against using capitalization.

here's some things that's been going on

-working the two jobs is tough but it's okay, i'll be dead soon enough

-i've realized stories of me stealing, and crapping on myself do not make me a good person

-i've realized that az is not a common name, no matter how many times i explain "it's pronounced like how it's spelled!" duh

-i'm scared that i'm on the edge of a cliff, looking out at my beliefs in God, and still not ready to dive to my death

-it's lent, and people ask me "why do you give up stuff?"

-i'm a crazy catholic, that my friends just don't like sometimes. and i'm sorry that you would feel any angst towards me because of my beliefs, i really never meant to hurt anyone

-common sense is not so common

i used to write some good stories, and have great love for telling them to my friends. sometimes i feel oral presentation is the best format, but there isn't a way to just be a storyteller anymore.

The DVD Player Story

It was Christmas shopping season in 2001, and I was 15 years old. My Dad, Stepmom, and I hopped into the Ford Escape, and set off to go shopping at the store that will be referred to as, "The Store with the Best Buys."

Once Inside, Stepmom told me we were getting a new Big Screen TV for Dad.

I walked around, drooled over the video games, and made my way back to see the 2 of them wrapping up the sale with Salesguy on the floor.

Salesguy "Looks like you're all set"
Stepmom "Thanks"

I started pushing the cart towards the entrance. All the while I heard comments like these:

Stepmom "Let's go faster Steve"
Dad "Hurry it up man"
Stepmom (Sounding more agitated) "Go Faster"
Dad "I'm so serious about this, go faster"

Thinking this was to be a leisurely part of the shopping experience, I reluctantly pushed the cart faster out of the "The Store with the Best Buys," and got it to our car.

Dad "Hurry up, and help me get this F*cking TV in the car"

Thinking everyone was mad at me, I helped, and wondered internally if they hated me. I was 15, therefore emo by nature.

Once we were in, Dad peeled out. Literally peeled out. He drove about 65 on surface streets and finally stopped for gas. He filled up and got back in the car, that's when they both smiled the hugest grins.

Stepmom "You just stole a DVD Player."
Steve "WHAT?!"
Dad "That's my boy."

It appears as when the sales guy rang them up, he only rang up the TV, and forgot about the DVD player that he brought out from their locked up area. Dad and Stepmom immediately realized this and had the 15 year old churchboy roll the hot merchandise out the store.

Dad "If the alarm would've sounded, you would have been surprised just the same."

And there I was.
Sitting down in the backseat of a family SUV, in the heart of Christmas season, reminiscing, about how I committed my first crime.

Merry Christmas

I can only think of a few things:

Robert Goulet has died

Chris Jericho has not saved us

Jesus will return, and I will be unprepared & forced to improvise

Guitar may not be my soulmate

Az is a cool cat

Cats are cool, like Az

I really want to level my Shaman

I won't be able to level anything

I'm going to quit work soon, but the anticipation is killing me

I'm in a dire need of a break from youth ministry

I love being Ashley's confirmation sponsor, because she never really talks...at all. I think that's cool.

Gunther and Max should be Charter members of the Brotherhood, even though I'm Mexican

Christi posted some good poetry

I wonder how Jae's doing

Jaymie and Eddy are moving soon, and that makes me sad

Ty is the type of Christian I will never be (but the one I want to be the most)

Sandra's Birthday is coming

Lee's Birthday is coming

Giancarlo will never read this

I thought Jennifer's Halloween party would be this Sunday, not last Sunday

I look fat

Leakey's fat

I wish I could go trick or treating with my little brothers and sisters tonight, I really do...

And now I will finish the speech paper.

an actual book that fails

I am a big proponent of judging books by their covers.
I happened to be working on the Sports section of Barnes & Noble today when I skimmed across this book:

How to Be like Jackie Robinson fails.

This has got to be one of the most attention-seeking titles I've seen today. It's just begging me, saying "Read me, love me, beg for me."

But like any other dysfunctional inanimate object, it just gives away too much, too soon.

For instance, the book gives the purpose of the book, the main character of the book, and the setting of the book away right on the cover! Come on. Leave a little to the imagination...floozy.

The purpose! I like knowing how to do stuff. And How to be like Jackie Robinson may be able to fulfill this desire for instant gratification, but I'd really like to get to know you a little bit more first before we start getting physical...opening you up, licking my finger before I turn you page by page.

The Main Character. I like stories that intrigue me with things like "Should I be rooting for the midget?" and "Why is the main character talking about aliens from Tramalfador?" How to be like Jackie Robinson totally fills me in on that subject before I can hit the first page. This to me is just one word: Overkill.

The Setting. How to Be like Jackie Robinson. Any time I know a book is going to fall within the boundaries of space and/or time...kinda screams yawn to me. Maybe it's too similar to my own life...with all of this time...and/or space.

However, even with a cover that is very revealing and maybe purely eye-candy, I would like to think that if one day when we were older, and I did read it, I too could be the first African American to play baseball in the major leagues. But alas, things don't always work out as they seem... :( .

All in all 5 stars.
Seriously guys, modesty is sexy.

Matthew Vaughn

Marvel Comics is in the script writing phase of a new Thor movie. Although I haven't read the comics, my interest immediately peaked when I read that Marvel Comics may be seeking Triple H (the wrestler) for the lead.

The director of the film, Matthew Vaughn apparently seems to be against the idea of having a pro wrestler for his movie.

Therefore Matthew Vaughn fails, and this is why:

This is Thor:

This is Triple H:

This is who the director wants to play the part:

Matthew Vaughn, honestly?

View Poll: Matthew Vaughn Fails

Triple H=Thor.
